Science Olympiad Written Policies

The following written policies relate to us being in compliance with the Minors on Campus policy.

Guest Visitation
Visitors to the campus will follow Georgia State University guidelines, policies, and procedures ( https://policies.oie.gsu.edu/about/ ; https://safety.gsu.edu/ ). Any visiting minors must be accompanied by an adult with supervisory responsibilities for that minor and follow the regulations for minors on campus ( https://risk.gsu.edu/minors-on-campus/ ).

Check-in & Check-out Procedures
Each team coach(es) and/or parents/legal guardian will be responsible for all team members (including, but not limited to, coaches, support staff, volunteers, students) during their time on campus. There are no check in or check out regulations for arriving and leaving campus. There is a check in location for the team when they arrive to compete at the Science Olympiad event so that we know you have arrived (see posted schedule for location).

Inclement Weather
Severe weather and other reasons may cause the college to close unexpectedly. Check the college website (
http://perimeter.gsu.edu/ ) regularly for updates and to see when the college will reopen. Please ensure you have signed up for Panther Alerts at https://safety.gsu.edu/ . This will give you updates to your email, phone, etc. when the college closes or other situations arise. In the case of inclement weather, we will follow Georgia State University official closing dates and times. If the College is officially closed, then the event will be cancelled if an alternative Saturday cannot be arranged.

Emergency Notification Procedure
Emergency notifications from Georgia State University are sent out through Panther Alerts. Any emergency notifications just prior to the day of the event and/or on the day of the event for Clarkston campus will be emailed to Head Coach's registered email addresses by Mark Hollier. Information on Panther Alerts is at https://safety.gsu.edu/ . Information in these alerts includes, but is not limited to, college closures, emergency notifications, inclement wether advsiroies, or other situations arise.

Injury or Illness
Injuries or illness that occur on campus or are carried on to campus (the injury or illness was present before the person stepped on to campus) will follow the guidelines, policies, and procedures of Georgia State University and will be reported to Georgia State University Public Safety. A determination of what to do next will be done by Public Safety. All incidents should be reported immediately to Mark Hollier (Tournament Director, mhollier@gsu.edu, 678-891-3779, report in person to C Building, room 2167). The report must also be submitted to Safety & Risk Management ( bethjones@gsu.edu & oanderson@gsu.edu ), for any injury or illness involving a minor ( https://risk.gsu.edu/minors-on-campus/ ).
Injuries and/or illnesses should be reported if the child needs immediate outside medical attention. If a child has a stomachache and goes home with a parent, then you do not need to document this with GSU.

Missing Child Policy
Any missing children (minors) should be reported immediately to Campus Police ( https://safety.gsu.edu/ ). Any of the Perimeter College Science Olympiad Tournament Directors should also be notified ( information located here ).

Code of Conduct
Visitors to the Perimeter College Science Olympiad will be held to the Code of Ethics and General Rules of the National Science Olympiad organization ( https://www.soinc.org/code-ethics-general-rules ). Any misconduct will be reported to the Tournament Director for the Science Olympiad event held at Perimeter College (Mark Hollier, mhollier@gsu.edu , 678-891-3779).

Supervision of competitors / Security of personal item(s)
Team coaches are responsible for the supervision of competitors on their team(s), security of personal item(s) brought onto the Perimeter College campus, and all aspects of check-in and check-out from the campus for all their team members.

Coaches/team chaperones are responsible for supervising the minor participants the entire time they are on campus. Accordingly, coaches/team chaperones are responsible for addressing any participant medical issue, safety issue, or behavior issue. Georgia State is not responsible for supervision of the participants.
