Tests

There will be no makeup tests / exams given in class. Online tests can be made up by following the rules for requesting extensions as listed in the “Make-ups for online assignments” section. The exception to those rules are for a student who has a special permission for being absent during the exam time (this requires a fully documented and valid reason). Documented excuses must be provided within 2 classes of your return to class, but no later than the date of the final exam. Excuses will not be accepted after the final exam, except for the final exam. Tests will most likely comprise of multiple choice and/or multiple select questions, and paragraph questions from all chapters covered/important topics. Tests may include, but not limited to, fill in the blank answers, matching questions, diagram questions, mathematical questions, and/or a test composed entirely of paragraph/essay questions. All questions must be answered on the tests. Turning up late to a test will reduce your test time, tests start and end the same time for the entire class (no extensions given for being late, so make sure you are on time). You MUST bring a green scantron, pencil, and if directed also bring some paper to write the paragraph answers on to each in-class test. Makeup tests, or tests given on a different day and/or time and/or location, for valid and documented reasons, WILL be different to the test given to the rest of the class, and MAY be given in a different format to the test given to the rest of the class (could include, but not limited to, fill in the blank answers, matching questions, diagram questions, mathematical questions, and/or a test composed entirely of paragraph/essay questions). The final exam for this course will be cumulative (comprehensive) and will be similar in nature to the tests given throughout the semester.  It is important that the student learns any material that they did not master during the course of the semester prior to taking the final exam as they can expect to see the same type of problems again on the final exam. A common course assessment may be administered as part of the final exam (a single question from the assessment exam will be equally weighted to a single question from the final practical exam).

All tests MUST be taken. To be clear, the final exam cannot be dropped and you cannot just skip a test.

Failure to take a test but taking the extra credit for the test will result in a zero grade for that test. Extra credit for tests is only included if you actually take the test.

I do not believe in curving grades as it is unfair to all students in the class and goes against my academic ethics, so please do not ask me at the end of the semester. The grade you earn is the grade you get.

Online tests and assignments are open book, unless specifically stated as closed book in the syllabus and/or class schedule. In-class assignments are closed book (no resources of any kind), unless specifically stated as open book in the syllabus and/or class schedule.

The Lockdown Browser with a webcam is required for all tests in iCollege. Refer to the section “Respondus Lockdown Browser with Respondus Monitor” for more information.

Online tests will be available for review for 5 business days after the test grades are released. The tests will then be closed and will not be able to be reviewed after that point. You should verify your answers and how they were graded in that 5 business day period.

You are NOT allowed to take pictures or images of tests in any way or form. This includes, but not limited to, during the test and when reviewing tests. You are not allowed to write down test questions. You can review test questions in iCollege, but you are not allowed to keep a copy in any form. Making a copy of any test question in any form (known or unknown) is considered cheating.

When planning the time and date for taking online tests or quizzes, always check the iCollege maintenance time(s). You must plan to complete the quiz / test within the time frame for the test / quiz, and allow for any scheduled iCollege maintenance. During the iCollege maintenance time you will not be able to access iCollege. If you are in progress of completing a quiz or test when the iCollege maintenance starts you will lose that work. Requesting a test or quiz to be reopened as you did not plan around the iCollege maintenance time is not an acceptable reason for requesting an extension and your request will be denied.

When working through tests online always make sure you save each answer as you go. If you do not do this and something goes wrong, then you will only have the remaining time to answer all questions (see “If you have test problems” section below).

The MultiSelect questions on lecture tests come from one of three places: (i) Materials provided in iCollege (lectures, fill-in-the-blank notes, etc.), (ii) Mastering, and (iii) the course textbook. The majority (about two thirds of the questions) come from the Materials provided in iCollege. Looking at questions students have queried, I find myself writing back with specific page numbers as to where the information was located in the materials in iCollege.

 

Understanding what is required for paragraph questions

Paragraph questions often require you to go beyond regurgitating the course material. They require higher level skills (see table below). Paragraph questions often require you to integrate information from multiple chapters in the course, not just the chapter on that assignment.
