Extra credit important topics - Microbiology lecture
Important topics covers material that connects, and is an integral part of, many chapters and topics in this course. Learning this material in separate chapters does not necessarily allow you to fully understand each topic and how impacts the host organism overall. These important topics are designed to try and bridge that gap. These topics are a foundation for a better understanding of the course and for your future career in the Health field. I strongly recommend that you study these topics throughout the course, between the end of this course and when you get in to your career program, and during your career program.
- Important topics extra credit assignments cover material from the important topics for the course. There are 5 important topics extra credit assignments in the semester. Each assignment is considered its own assignment. Completing some of the assignments will earn you points based on the specific assignments you completed and how well you did on them.
- In Microbiology these include diffusion/active transport/osmosis topic, pH topic, inflammation topic, endotoxin, transmission methods, and virulence factors.
- Multiselect questions = one or more answers could be correct, including the possibility that every answer is correct. They will be graded as right answers minus wrong answer. For example, if 3 answers are correct and 1 is wrong, and you only select 2 correct answers, then you score 3-1 = 2 points out of 4 for that question = 50% for that question.
- Multiselect questions are worth 2 points for each question.
- The first and second important topics extra credit assignments will cover diffusion/active transport/osmosis topic, pH topic, inflammation topic, and endotoxin.
- The third, fourth, and fifth important topics extra credit assignments will cover all topics (the virulence factors topic includes the endotoxin topic as part of this topic).
- Each extra credit assignment is worth a maximum of 1% towards your course grade (maximum of 5% towards your overall course grade).
- The actual value towards your course grade is your overall percent for the assignment multiplied by the maximum percentage the assignment is worth towards your course grade.
- For calculating your course grade, average the percentage of the grades for all 5 assignments and multiply by 5%.
- Important topics extra credit assignments 1 and 2 have a multiselect component only. There will be 5 multi-select questions per important topic.
- Topics covered: (i) diffusion/active transport/osmosis topic, (ii) pH topic, (iii) inflammation topic, and (iv) endotoxin topic.
- 2 minutes per question + 5 minutes additional to the total time.
- 2 attempts, with the highest scoring attempt being the one that is used. You must take both attempts within the exam time frame listed in the schedule. You will be able to review your first attempt immediately after taking it. You will not be able to take the second attempt after the exam time frame listed in the schedule has expired.
- Important topics extra credit assignments 3, 4, and 5 have a multiselect component only. There will be 5 multi-select questions per important topic.
